Honoring the fallen on Memorial Day 2021

​Memorial Day is coming up on Monday, and while many of us will be enjoying a day off from work, spending time with family or grilling out, it’s a day to remember those service members who lost their lives for our freedom.

At Leigh Insurance Agency, our office will be closed come the 31st, but we will be honoring our fallen heroes. If you’re looking for a way to commemorate the military, we’ve made a list of activities, traditions, and celebrations, including some locally, you can participate in.

1. Local Memorial Day Tribute – May 29 through May 31
The Classic Car Museum of St. Augustine and The American Military Historical Society in partnership will host a Memorial Day Tribute event May 29-31 – free to the public! Military displays from World War 1, World War 2, the Korean War & Vietnam War. Donations are welcome and will benefit the 5 Star Veterans Center in Jacksonville.

2. Honor fallen soldiers by recognizing those currently serving
Whether you visit a veteran or send a letter or package to a member of the military, caring for those currently in the Armed Forces is a great way to show your support on Memorial Day.

3. Visit the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Wall
This memorial in downtown Jacksonville honors more than 1,500 local fallen members of the military, from WWI through the early 2000s.

4. Have a moment of silence
In between the fun in the sun or time with friends, having a moment of silence to honor those lost in service is a way to pause and remember the reason for the day. On Memorial Day at 3 p.m., Americans are called to pause and remember those soldiers – in fact, Congress passed a National Moment of Remembrance for this date and time.
