Leigh Insurance Agency of St Augustine Blog |
At Leigh Insurance Agency of St. Augustine, we’re experts at finding our customers the personal or commercial auto policy best suited for their lifestyle and wallet. With carriers like Progressive, Foremost Insurance Group, Dairyland Insurance and more, we’re able to access the most affordable premium with the coverage you need to stay protected. But with different types of coverage offered, sometimes it’s difficult to know the answer to the question – “What limits do I need?”
For personal auto insurance, there are six basic types of coverage. Bodily injury liability covers injuries the driver causes to someone else in an accident. Although some agencies will write policies without this coverage, Leigh Insurance writes at least the state minimum on each of our policies to ensure our customers are protected. Property damage liability similarly covers damage the policyholder causes to someone else’s property in the event of an accident. Personal Injury Protection, or PIP, covers expenses for injuries to the driver and passengers of the insured’s vehicle. In a standard policy, this will pay for up to $10,000 of expenses. Comprehensive and collision coverage is optional for most policyholders who are not financing or leasing a vehicle. Comprehensive covers damage to your vehicle not involving a collision with another car, like damage from fire, flood, theft, or windshield cracks. If you carry Comprehensive coverage in the state of Florida, you’re also covered for one free windshield replacement each year. Collision covers damage to your car from an accident. Both of these coverages come with deductible options, the standard being $500. Finally, Uninsured Motorist coverage is also optional in the state of Florida, and it covers costs resulting from an accident with someone who is underinsured, doesn’t have insurance or a hit-and-run driver. Because motorists are not required to have Bodily Injury liability, this coverage protects against those who might not carry it on their policy. In the state of Florida, about 26% of drivers are uninsured – the highest in the country – which makes this coverage equally as important in the Sunshine State. In addition, our carriers offer roadside assistance, towing, and rental reimbursement options should you opt to carry those. We know it’s a lot to take in, and we’d be happy to go over the options with you here at Leigh Insurance Agency of St. Augustine.
